The Gospel

At Grace Fellowship Church, the Gospel is at the heart of all that we do. But what is the Gospel? Maybe you have heard that word used but are not sure what it means. The Bible says in Romans 1:16 that the Gospel is the "power of God for salvation to everyone who believes..."

Almost everyone agrees that there is something wrong with the world. What we tend to not agree on is what the problem is and how we can fix it. Is the problem political? Is the problem psychological? Is the problem a lack of education? Or is the problem spiritual? The Bible no only diagnosis the problem correctly, it also gives us the cure.

The biggest problem we all face is sin. God created a perfect world, one that had no problems. But man sinned. Man broke the perfect law of God. And because of that, sin came into the world. Romans 3:23 tells us that "all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God." And because of our sin, we are subject to the wrath of God. Ephesians 2:3 calls us natural children of wrath. We are born in a state of sin and liable to the eternal wrath of God.

God, being holy and just, would be perfectly right to leave us in our state of sin. But in His love and mercy He has provided a way to be saved. God sent His Son, Jesus, to be born. Jesus is God in the flesh. The fullness of God became a man. Jesus, the Bible says, was tempted as we are, yet without sin. He never broke one of God's commandments.

At just the right time, Jesus was arrested, tried, condemned, and nailed to a cross. He suffered the most agonizing death ever created, though He had done nothing wrong. And though this seemed at the time to be a defeat, it was God's plan all along. While Jesus hung on the cross, God poured out His wrath on Him. 2 Corinthians 5:21 says, "He who knew no sin became sin for us..." In other words, all who believe in Jesus have their sins taken off of them and placed on Christ. Those sins are dealt with on the cross.

The best news of all, Jesus did not stay dead. Three days later Jesus rose from the dead. All who believe in Him, repenting of their sins and crying out to God for mercy, will be saved. And we will one day go to live with Christ for all of eternity. Those who reject the good news, the Gospel, will perish in their sins. They will spend eternity under the wrath of God.

“...there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved." Acts 4:12
